Jim Holmes
Senior Pastor

Pastor Jim Holmes was born in Augusta, Georgia and grew up in Aiken, South Carolina where he graduated from Aiken High School. He went on to attend Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1973 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After graduating college, Pastor Holmes played professional golf until being called into the ministry and seminary training in 1983.

In 1983, Pastor Holmes enrolled in Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina. During his time at seminary, Pastor Holmes was ordained and began serving as Senior Pastor of Enon Baptist Church, Oxford, North Carolina. In 1986, Pastor Holmes graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity Degree.

In July of 2000, Pastor Holmes became Senior Pastor of Helen First Baptist Church. Pastor Holmes and his wife, Mary, of 28 years have four beautiful daughters; Maggie Lane, Mary James, Sarah Louise and Abbie Grace.

 
Jim Gant
Associate Pastor – Pastoral Care & Young Adults

Originally from Riverdale, Georgia, Jim Gant has been a member of Helen First Baptist since 1998, and a full-time staff member since 2000. His ministry responsibilities include providing pastoral care and counseling, leading the church small group ministry, and providing pastoral support for young adults as they manage significant life transitions (e.g., into college and the workforce, marriage, parenthood, etc.).

Jim is a graduate of Truett-McConnell College and Berry College, and has a Master's degree in Community Counseling from Georgia State University and a Diploma in Christian Counseling from the Psychological Studies Institute in Atlanta. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Angie, and his two young daughters, Sarabeth and Jamie.

 

 
Jamie Smith
Associate Pastor – Students & Children

Born in Gainesville, Georgia on December 31, 1974, Jamie grew up in the northeastern part of Forsyth County. He became a Christian on April 11, 1995 and immediately accepted the call to preach. He received a Bachelor's Degree from North Georgia College and State University in December 12, 1997 and taught public school math before serving as part-time Middle School Pastor and later as full-time Associate Pastor of Youth at Cleveland Church of God (1999-2006). Jamie was called to Helen First Baptist as Associate Pastor in June 2007. He completed his seminary studies in June 2008 and received a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Jamie and his wife Laura have two daughters, Emily and Caroline.

 
William (Bill) Terry III
Associate Pastor – Administration & Senior Adults

Bill was born and raised in southwest Florida. Graduated from Florida State University in 1968 and attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1982-83. He began his ministry career at First Baptist Church in Cherryville, North Carolina in 1984.

Bill has served in a variety of ministry positions at First Baptist Church Cherryville, NC, (1984 - 1990) and Lilburn (GA) First Baptist Church (1990-2005) prior to joining Helen First Baptist Church in August 2005 as Associate Pastor: Adults and Administration.

Bill and Margie are the proud parents of two adult children and three grandchildren.

 

Dale Thomas
Associate Pastor – Missions

Dale was born again in Herkimer, NY, and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He is the Owner/President of Electrical Design Consultants.. He serves Helen First Baptist Church as bi-vocational Associate Pastor of Missions.

Dale is married to Virginia and has two sons, one daughter and nine grandchildren.

 

Ben Caston

A native of Liberty, Mississippi, Ben Caston is a graduate of William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Music in Church Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts, each with an emphasis in voice. An ordained minister and active in music ministry since 1994, Dr. Caston has served Southern Baptist Churches in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia. He and his wife, Rebecca, have a son, Clay, and a daughter, Sydney, and they live in Sautee. Dr. Caston also serves as the Chair of the Music and Fine Arts Division at Truett-McConnell College.
